The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with EY. The internship was organised well and I was able to gain super experience with a range of clients!
Whilst working at a client's site I was surprised at how much responsibility was put on me. I was trusted to complete many important tasks independently and hence I felt I was useful to the team.
I was assigned a Buddy and a Counsellor throughout the internship. My buddy was in his first year with EY and my Counsellor had worked at EY for over 3 years and hence was qualified. Both gave me excellent support often providing feedback and helped to set goals to improve my work throughout the internship. They were also happy to answer a lot of questions and sacrificed a lot of their own time to help my development.
At the beginning of the internship a new insolvency case came about. This kept me very busy for the bulk of the six week internship. My first week was essentially spent on a induction and then in the office learning the basics. The next few weeks I was working form a client's site. Towards the end of my internship things did wind down I was back in the EY office and had some quiet days.
I was impressed by the level of responsibility put on me. I was trusted and encouraged to take on many tasks such as taking stock checks as well as answering the phone to a range of parties and following up their separate issues. When I felt out of my depth I was easily able to ask for help.
I have gained first had experience of how accounts are used in the industry, this has taught me the importance of them and will motivate me to work hard next year. Furthermore I would expect that being in the office environment for an extended period of time has built up a stronger work ethic in me.
The Company
I was introduced to everyone present on day one. All team members were very friendly and approachable, my first week included a team social I which we went to a fancy restaurant and then a show at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Very well organised. We had a days introduction which helped to understand the main structure of EY. I then had people welcome me to my team on day one.
I met with my Buddy and Counsellor several times throughout the internship to discuss my performance. Feedback is a huge part of working at EY so we would often go through the feedback I had received to work out what was doing well and how I could improve. On top of this I would also mention that whenever I needed help I could approach the relevant person and they were always willing to put in the time.

I will be informed formally following the internship which is how the process works. I believe that a lot of interns do receive graduate offers following the internship so I am hopeful!
The Culture
There are 4 other interns in the Edinburgh office I regularly meet for lunch with them.
I lived at home so for me minimal. Edinburgh is cheap in comparison to places like London.
Good plenty of bars clubs and restaurants in the city and near the office.
There were several social events outside of work.
