The Role
I really enjoyed my placement as it allowed me to see a whole range of departments. Responsibility was handed willingly to students with a lot of support from your line manager and department.
I felt valued in the majority of the departments I visited - often once you were trained in the role the department would want you to stay on as you had become a key member of the team.
I was given a lot of support from colleagues in each department and then provided guidance by senior members of staff on how to improve my skills/task I had been set.
Varies from each department and how quickly you are trained in a role. The majority of departments are keen for you to learn quickly and be self-sufficient by the end of your module in the department.
Again this varies from each department but there are plenty of opportunities to gain more responsibility.
I believe the exposure I have received to several departments will allow me to apply theory more accurately to the work place as it will be easy to relate.
The Company
Dependent on department - often quiet but tends to be more lively in the warehouse and stores.
Good training plan from the start of the year with key dates/module weeks already set out. However, in there was a big difference between regions as to what placement students learned in specific departments.
Attended emotional intelligence seminars as well as supply chain workshops. Placement students were also able to attend training workshops for current staff members in all departments so this gave a great insight as to how to develop existing staff members in organisations.
