The Role
The work was challenging and interesting but I could not go into it as a career, it would have gotten very boring very quickly
My colleagues were the best part of the internship, they looked out for me and supported me and I made some really good friends.
She was quite busy so while i did get regular support there could have been more. She was very helpful though.
Very. There was always more work to be done
Quite a bit - i was supervised and my work checked but i was treated like a colleague.
probably helped my confidence and work ethic, as well as my time management
The Company
There was lots of work to be done so it was often very quiet, but as a rule the team got along well and it was a friendly office. I enjoyed the atmosphere and considered it a pleasant place to work - there was quite a lot of fundraising activity which encouraged team bonding and managers sought to increase team morale.
Overall, well - but much better in the sorting process than in the day to day management. There were useless webinars that wasted lunchtimes, and forcing interns to do fundraising outside of office hours and unpaid was an annoyance at the best of times. However, it was well-paid and the fact accommodation was provided for us was very welcome, especially as the accommodation was central if basic. Queries on overtime were met with confusion, which led to me working overtime that it turned out I couldn't be paid for. This was very frustrating. Several friends found themselves in internships where there was nothing for them to do. Generally: good set-up, but some big flaws.
There was development time in my weekly schedule and my manager was keen that I use it. Given that my internship was only 10 weeks I was surprised by how much I developed and this was a good part of the internship for me; I was also trained according to both mine and the business interest, which was useful.
I was offered a place on the graduate scheme, which is quite attractive but there are several drawbacks - the salary is good and so are the benefits, but it's not in an area I want to pursue and not a career I want to have. There were things about the grad scheme that aren't made clear: the length of time you're bound to LBG, for example, and the degree of choice you can make as to jobs and locations.
The Culture
Medium to none - interns weren't introduced to each other at my location and we only got to know each other through being in the same place. More could definitely have been done on this front: socials to begin our internships, for instance. Colleague social interaction varied: my team improved on this as time went on.
Not terrible: Edinburgh the same as London, pretty much. Lloyds taking the accommodation cost off our hands was good.
Don't know, didn't bother, not my kind of thing. Nice cocktail bars though
Not especially. Lots of things like volunteering schemes we weren't eligible to join.
