The Role
I really enjoyed the work I did here. I learnt a lot from it. There were lots of fun activities during lunchtimes and after work too. And there was also the trip to the London office for the Vacathon - got to work in a team on a group project. In all it was a very useful experience that I take a lot away from.
They appreciated the work I did to some extent. Hopefully the work I did will be of some use. I was welcomed as part of a team which is nice.
I had a mentor to help daily with any problems I encountered, or any questions I had to ask. I also had weekly status meetings with my manager to check up on things, and could approach him at any time too. My mentor and manager gave me suggestions and tips on how to do my project, but I ultimately got to decide how I wanted to go about it, with their input to help.
Generally I had a good amount of work to do every day. I didn't feel lack of, or too much work. My manager even helped me in planning how to go about a task when there were multiple things on a task that needed to be done. Occasionally in between the two projects I was working on I had a bit less work to do but this was not a huge issue.
I was responsible for my own project, but that was designing things to help my team go about their work more easily. I wasn't responsible for anything outside of the project I was working on (which was a side thing to what the rest of my team were doing)
In my degree studies, the programming and presentation skills won't really come in, as I do Maths, and these are not requires, however in the bigger picture, past University, they will be very useful. I got lots of feedback on how to improve my presentation skills, and have learnt a lot about planning for a task ahead.
The Company
Good. Personally I like the Edinburgh office as it is not too big, and people get to know one another.
In general quite well set up, but could be improved. There was some confusion in the Hackathon event in terms of the organisation of it. Would have been nice if computer was set up already when I arrived.
I learnt a lot!! I Was set up on my own computer, and got to learn new languages, Also during Vacathon week, got to do a presentation and feedback session purely for our benefit. Here we gave a presentation on a topic and got feedback from fellow interns, and someone from the company who was watching. We were then also given a video of the presentation so we could watch it back to compare to the feedback. Manager also helped me in terms of how to plan for tasks.

The Culture
Fellow interns went down to Enfield together for the Hackathon week, there were many events set up then, such as going to ClueQuest together with all the other interns from the other offices around the country, and a fish and chip evening, and events during lunchtime. In Edinburgh there isn't really an intern/office divide as the office is quite small with only 6 interns, so we got to know the other interns as much as the rest of the office. In Enfield there is more of a divide. The interns in Edinburgh were also divided in two houses, it would have been nice to all be in the same one.
Good, though pub lunches and eating at pubs could be expensive! Housing was found for us by the company, and was subsidized, it cost £11 a night. This could maybe be less but they are already subsidizing it and I do not know the cost of houses around Edinburgh, or how much the company are paying towards it. Welcome and leavers drinks were paid for by the company, but no food really ever was.
From what I am aware it is really good, but, I didn't take part in it much, only really one evening so I can't comment much here
There were lots of social events. There were many lunchtime events, such as card games, tennis, frisbee, football, and pub lunches every week. There was also starter and leaver drinks when people joined and left. There were also many other acitivities outside of work, such as monthly poker nights, karaoke nights, quizzes, fireworks trip, and an Edinburgh barbeque is coming up.
