The Role
It was monotonous and not something that I expected a university placement student would be doing. I was basically doing office work which was not what I expected.
I felt close with my work colleagues and they were all really nice. They told me that I was the best placement student they'd had in years which made me feel really valued.
I was given such basic jobs that I didn't need any training.
I was bored most of the time. Answering the telephone and replying to customer's complaints was not exciting or stimulating at all.
I was helping customers directly which was a lot of responsibility as I was the first line of customer interaction.
The tasks I was doing on my placement had little to do with my degree. To be perfectly honest, it was a waste of a placement.
The Company
There were too many calls to answer for me to have any fun in the office during work hours, but breaks were fun as everyone was really loud and sociable.
It seemed like I was just given the tasks that the full-timers didn't fancy doing - a few times I was even asked to make the managers a cup of tea, which I wasn't best pleased about doing.
Training? Development? You must be joking! The managers weren't interested in how I was feeling. I was there to do the basic jobs.
I wouldn't return there if you gave me a million pound salary. The job was poor and the managers didn't seem interested in my development.
The Culture
There were no other placement students working there but I got on really well with most of the other staff.
I found property prices very reasonable and there are plenty of cheap shops to purchase food and other essentials. Surprisingly, the nightlife was pretty cheap as well.
In a word: decent. Nothing spectacular but good enough. I had quite a few interesting nights out in the town centre.
I made some good friends so I was invited to quite a lot of activities.
