The Role
I enjoyed the parts of my placement where I was actively involved in the project. However, the team I was placed with were nearing a deadline for a major project which meant I was often not given enough work or any at all due to the fact that people were too busy. I did not enjoy parts where I was not given enough work.
The people on the rail team made me feel part of the team and were very welcoming and friendly.
My supervisor checked on me every so often and I reported to her on a weekly basis. She ensured that had I not received enough work that people were pushed to give me more. She also provided me with support regarding any other matters.
I feel although I learnt a lot from the placement that I could have taken more from it. I kept myself occupied and tried to learn as much as what I could from the resources available to me. However, there was no schedule or planning regarding my placement or what I was to work on but rather finding things to do on a daily basis.
Again my team were working on an important project and nearing a deadline, therefore, I was not able to contribute a significant amout due to the fact that I was not trained on the technical aspects of the project. However, I did research, design and produce drawings for access stairs at 3 different locations
I feel much more confident in presenting myself and speaking to people in a professional environment. I also improved my ability to read engineering drawings significantly which will help should I become a civil engineer in the future
The Company
Very friendly people who were passionate and exceptional at what they do. The general atmosphere was one that motivated me to want to strive and do what I do better.
As previously mentioned, there was nothing put into place regarding training in technical aspects, using software or any work I was due to complete.
My team made me feel like I contributed with my designs but again I was not able to contribute as much as I would have liked as I did not possess the relevant technical knowledge or provided with training

A brilliant company working on some very interesting projects with a variety of opportunities available for personal development and travelling
The Culture
My colleagues would go out together when the team had organised events
I did not live in the area where the office was and so did not need to buy anything
I do not partake in activities related to this for religious reasons and so I am not aware of the night life in the area.
There were many Campud initiatived including sports clubs, team outings, quizzes etc.
