The Role
I really enjoyed my summer internship at EY. I was given real responsibility on a client facing project. I did not feel as though I was an intern as I was doing meaningful work. Some people on the client site where even surprised when I told them that I am an intern because of the level of work and responsibility that I was given.
Everyone at EY is very supportive. Everyone I worked with, whether it was a partner, an associate or even another intern treated me as their equal when working with them. I was treated as a consultant and not as someone of an inferior skill set or knowledge as I had presumed.
Everyone at EY was very quick to help me and support me whenever I got stuck or didn't know anything.
I was given a lot of important jobs o do so I worked really hard to ensure that they were presented at a high standard. I worked 9-5.30 and only stayed later if I had bits to finish off that i didn't want to leave for the next day.
I was given meaningful work from the first day on the client project.
I study economics and finance at university. This role helped me gain greater commercial awareness in my field of study. I learnt so much about financial regulations. I also worked closely with people from the European offices and learnt a lot about the European offices in doing so. I have also been able to advance my technical skills such as my MS skills.
The Company
The people were kind and friendly. I didn't expect a party.
I found the beginning of the placement disorganised. I wasn't sure what I was doing until I was put on my engagement with the client. So I spent a few days in the office not really knowing what I was doing that day or the next day. This shows a lack of organisation
I feel like a lot was invested in my personal development. there were weekly lunch and learn sessions that took place in the first few weeks. These were not compulsory but I was able to learn more about the business and how to act professionally. There were also some training sessions for MS proficiency. Whatever I wanted to learn I could just ask someone and they would either help me themselves or tell me how EY can help me with what I wanted to know if they were unable to help.

Working from home
This is a really great firm to work for. The company culture is great and the prospects for promotion are fair. If you are motivated it seems that it will be easy for you to progress your career.
The Culture
The interns all stuck together very well. My project engagement team were also very well connected
London is extremely expensive. I lived in East London so my rent was fairly low compared to other interns. I also cycled to work to save money on public transport but on days when it rained I spent £10 just on commuting to work by public means.
Nightlife in London is great but expensive
There is so much to do in London. You cannot get bored
