The Role
I really enjoyed my summer placement at KPMG. It lasted for 6 weeks and during that time I was able to work with a number of different people and in many different locations. I was given real work to complete which was a little daunting at first but the work was interesting and my colleagues were more than happy to help.
I felt really valued by my colleagues, there were many social events to attend which was a nice way to get to know people. It was unusual working with different people very week but this way I got to know more people in the office. I was also assigned a "buddy" which was great and she was always happy to help me with any queries.
Mostly, guidance was given by the person I was working with that particular week, again my colleagues were very patient and happy to spend time helping me with tasks. I also had a midpoint meeting with my performance manager to receive feedback as well as for him to see how I was finding the internship so far.
I was given plenty of tasks to fill my days and keep me busy, so I was never bored with nothing to do. However it was the right amount of work so that I always had time for lunch breaks and the workload didn't become too stressful.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement which at times was quite daunting, however it felt good to know that my hard work was valued. From the first week I was encouraged to make enquiries with clients both in person and via email.
I feel that this internship has developed my communication and interpersonal skills, as well as my time management and has given me confidence to try new things. Additionally, I learnt how to use a variety of computer programmes and greatly developed my skills in excel.
The Company
I didn't work in the office often however when I was there the atmosphere was generally busy but relaxed.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Towards the end of my placement I was offered an interview, following this I was offered a graduate job and I'm really looking forward to returning to KPMG.
The Culture
There's a mix of different places to socialise to suit any budget.
As I was working for a smaller office, there were not so many clubs to join, however I understand that the larger offices have a great variety of activities to get involved in.
