The Role
I enjoyed my time at RBS, I had a strong supportive team who I got along with well.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I was able to complete work which was then taken forward for review by senior members of the bank. The projects I worked on had a real impact and which was hugely motivating as it showed both my opinion and work were valued by my team.
My line manager was very supportive and accommodating. Objectives were set at inception which was followed by weekly catch up meetings to track my progress and ensure I had adequate work. My team provided ample support and were happy to answer questions (providing I chose the right time).
Mostly busy. However there were times where I had little work to complete although this was usually offset pretty quickly once I reached out to my manager or the wider team - there was always something I could work on. Interns also took part in CSR work so that also consumed free time.
Considering I was an intern I'd say a good amount. The projects and research I worked on contributed to the teams output and really made a difference. I was also able to garner time with teams in other departments where I was also given responsibility.
I have learned a great deal from this internship, especially when managing relationships and the importance of networking. In terms of technical skills, I have developed my excel and powerpoint proficiency.
The Company
Relaxed, colleagues in and out of my team were easy to talk to. It wasn't as 'banky' as I expected it to be - but then again it wasn't IB.
Not as well as it could have been. There was the general feeling that HR were not the greatest. A lot of my friends did not have their RBS logins for the week 1st sometimes 2nd which was a nuisance. We were assessed against 5 key competencies alongside an end of internship presentation. In terms of assessment structure - it was pretty clear.
Company Parties/Events
Pretty appealing but I won't limit my options.
The Culture
Good social scene - regular intern drinks took place, some organised by the grads some not. Plenty of bars and clubs in London so there were plenty socialising opportunities.
I commuted from home so I only had travel expenses but it's London so expect to be rinsed out.
Again, it's London so you're possibilities are endless.
Sports days & team drinks.
