The Role
I enjoyed my internship at Santander. I spent 5 weeks in each team, both of which made me feel valued and always encouraged me to gain knowledge.
I felt valued by my colleagues in the entirety of my internship, feeling a part of the team and comfortable at work.
I was given lots of support and guidance by my managers. They supported me in all the work I was given and always encouraged me to ask questions and ask for work in any other areas I was interested in.
Depending on different audits/teams I was with, I was at times much busier than other times. However this was due to the stage that the audit was at and my managers always found me work to do regardless.
I was given responsibility with the work I was given but due to the stage the audit was at I never had extremely pressured responsibility or tight deadlines.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I was given in Internal Audit this summer. I have developed and gained many personal and professional skills tat will be useful to me later in my career. I will also approach university this coming year with a different attitude towards work and how to approach professional situations.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was generally very friendly. Colleagues always got on with their work but there was always opportunity for me to get to know others and have a relaxed approach to getting to know one another on a more personal level.
Generally the work placement seemed well organised and I had no problems with the way it was run.
We had a week at the beginning of training and inductions, and afterwards colleagues were always enthusiastic in giving s everything we needed to gain knowledge on the work we were doing.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
There is a great opportunity for graduate programmes within the Bank, and being an intern you have access to this. Speaking to current graduates about the work that they have been doing has been very helpful to get an idea about what we would be doing for future employment if we were to stay on after our internships.
The Culture
There was a good social scene between other interns and colleagues. Working in London also made it easier for interns to meet after work and get to know one another better.
Cost of living/socialising was quite expensive in London but this is to be expected here.
Nightlife near work was very accessible, many bars/nightclubs nearby
Yes, there were opportunities with charity events.
