About You
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Discover EY Belfast. I really got a feel for how friendly the environment is at EY - even the partners and directors got involved with us over the 2 days. I would've rated it higher except for some areas were a little hard to follow and contained too much information. Particularly the info on the different business areas.
Again as stated above, we were only involved for 2 days but it get like everyone at the firm was willing to participate and wanted to be a part of our experience. I have to admit I was not expecting to have anywhere near the level of exposure to the people at the top of EY as we did.
There was plenty of guidance on the what exactly the different business areas entailed which was very informative - perhaps too much so! Great section on discovering our own strengths, never mind tips and practice at group exercises which will be a real help for assessment centres.
Hard to judge this one as the skills learnt were more transferable to applications, not so much study or work.
The Company
Very well structured with very little wasted time and lots fitted in.
Honestly on this one it isn't so much EY that was at fault as much as the group I was with. I felt that the group should've been much more interactive as it was a great opportunity but it felt laboured at times. As I said above, the atmosphere at the firm was very friendly and everyone was very warm and welcoming. We were treated to breakfast and lunch on both days as well as dinner and drinks on the first. Everyone was very approachable and happy to talk about everything.
They gave us an opportunity to carry out a case study and present our findings to some senior members of the company. This was a great learning experience as well as a great opportunity to sell ourselves to the firm. We were then told we would be contacted with regards to our future with EY and the potential to fast track through the application process - something that shouldn't be undervalued.
Very good in this area as we had 45 minute talks by members of each of the 4 business strands. Some graduates that had recently finished there first year also shared some of their experiences providing a clear picture of the immediate future at the firm
Not necessarily by what we were told but mainly by the commitment to the programme we were on and how many people were keen to help. It should not go unnoticed that these directors that came to talk to us are extremely busy but felt their time was better invested in us than some of their work.
Content was again very informative and reassured me of what I thought each role consisted of. It was more through general talk with the graduates and with the senior staff, discussing career goals and personal strengths that helped me with this one.
Everything Else
We were told in advance that we were not be however refreshments and food were provided all day on both days - a lot more than was expected in my option
Surrounded by staff throughout each day with plenty of time to talk over lunch and dinner. Members of staff were from all areas and all levels so huge range of potential networks to be made
