The Role
The internship experience was excellent, I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised!
I was made to feel like a valued member of the team from day one. Everyone was ready and willing to give me support and advice when I needed it.
A major part of the internship with Barcap involves working closely with your manager to achieve the objectives set for you to achieve during your time with the company. I had weekly meetings with my manager to keep him up to date with my progress and to talk about any issues I was having
The department I was in during my internship involved a great deal of day to day work, so I was always kept busy with things to do throughout the day. I was also able to
As previously mentioned I was given a lot of day to day work to undertake, tasks which would have been completed by any of the other analysts in the department.
My presentation skills in particular improved considerably and the exposure I was given to different areas of the bank improved my overall understanding of how an investment bank functions day to day.
The Company
It really was fantastic, everyone was very welcoming and I felt like I had worked there for years! I joined the team on a number of organised nights out and had a great working relationship with everyone.
The application process was seamless, I was kept up to date at all times on my progress and given timely information on different events happening throughout the internship. The campus recruitment team were very supportive and were quick to answer any questions or queries we had.
Our first week was spent in London training with other interns from across the country and beyond. This was a great opportunity to network and was one of the highlights of the programme! I also received training throughout my internship and attended a number of 'knowledge share' sessions hosted by other analysts in the office.

I received a graduate job offer at the end of my placement which will lead to full time employment with Barclays... I cant wait to start!
The Culture
I had great fun with the other interns and we organised a number of nights out together as well as a volunteering day. The training week in London also gave us the opportunity to get to know each other better we all got on very well together.
Our accommodation costs for the training week were subsidised by the company and we received a living allowance to cover additional costs throughout the internship.
The nightlife in both Glasgow and London is excellent, with the latter being a new experience to me! Lots of the other interns would go for drinks after work which was another great chance to network and meet new people
Other departments involved the interns in various organised nights out and other activities as well as the volunteering day we were able to take part in. These were all great fun and added to overall internship experience.
