The Role
Truly fantastic work-experience, with lots of challenges and learning opportunities. I have learnt the essentials of many financial products (e.g. Swaps, options, covered bonds etc.) and saw how financial institutions are using them in practice.
I felt myself as a full time member of the team. Everyone was very supportive in whatever I am doing and everybody was keen to share their knowledge and experience with me. The overall environment is quite dynamic and things are constantly moving, which gave an extra excitement when coming to the office.
It was absolutely phenomenal. My manager and my buddy were very keen to give me any support I needed and were very happy to explain many concepts and procedures. My line manager has helped me to meet many other senior managers in other business areas, who gave me an insight in what their respective departments were involved in. This was really helpful to understand the whole business of Santander and also to find an area which would be of interest to me to pursue my future career in.
It pretty much depends upon the business area you work in and the type of job you are doing. Throughout my internship I had to produce daily, weekly and monthly reports which occasionally was quite challenging. As in most of the areas, the beginning of the month is particularly busy and you tend to concentrate on the tasks which are absolutely essential for what you are doing. However, there are calm periods when once finished with your tasks you can dive into the details, explore different areas and learn new skills.
I was given responsibility from day one and then it was gradually increasing over time. Some of my reports we
The skills I have gained over these 10 weeks will definitely be very helpful in the future as they are fundamental for almost any type of work nowadays. Communication, networking, team working and coding skills are among those which I feel that I have gained the most.
