The Role
There's an extremely open and friendly atmosphere at Softwire and lot's of events going on. People are very friendly and open to talking and hanging out.
I was praised when I did good work, but during a couple of weeks when I spent extra time working late at the office/coming in during the weekends, it felt as though my extra work was not recognised.
I has several feedback sessions. My only criticism is that my work was only really reviewed occasionally, and so it can be a bit random as to which parts of the work was reviewed.
There were periods of time where I felt overworked or didn't have anything to do, but mostly the work was fairly balanced.
There's a steep learning curve coming in and it was very early on that important tasks were being dished out.
I've learned a lot of skills since the start of my internship. I've also gained a lot of experience and been able to observe some real work tasks through shadowing.
The Company
Lot's of things going on. Very friendly atmosphere. The company obviously spends quite a lot to keep morale in the company high.
The project we worked on was clearly well set up and thought out. My only issue was that some parts of the admin, such as getting the work contracts, wasn't well organised.
They clearly do care about their interns.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
They seem a good choice, were it not for their slight financial uncertainties at the moment.
The Culture
Yes. Interns were encouraged to go to events and parties, though not pressurised in any way.
London is very costly.
Lots of pubs and places to eat after work. Also went clubbing with some of the Softwire employees. It would have been a lot harder to do some of these if the company hadn't subsidised the moral events due to budget restrictiond
There was a lot going on and we were even given the chance/encouraged to organise out own activities.
