About You
The three week summer vacation scheme provided a great insight into what it is like working for Deloitte, whilst allowing me to learn more about the audit profession. I enjoyed my time there, and met lots of nice people, both other vacation scheme students, and those I worked on projects with.
I mostly felt extremely valued during my time at Deloitte. You are treated the same as a new graduate would be, and given the same level of work and responsibility. I was given plenty of opportunities to experience what the work is really nice, and was trusted to go and talk to the clients myself.
I was given plenty of guidance and support throughout my time at Deloitte. You are assigned a buddy and a champion to guide you for your time there. My champion was particularly helpful, having set up my final partner interview for the last week of my intern, and always being there to answer any questions I had. At the start of the intern we were given training on how to use the company software, and those programs specific to audit.
Although a lot of the skills I learnt were very audit specific and not transferrable to my maths degree, they will be of use when I start work at the end of my degree. I have greatly improved my excel skills, and learnt lots about all the specific software used.
The Company
The summer vacation scheme programme was well structured, on the first day all of the interns received training together, and we were given plenty of opportunities to get to know each other. Throughout the intern, my champion organized which project I would be working on. There were also socials organized to bring the interns together, as most of us were working on client sites rather than the office.
There was a good atmosphere throughout the Summer Vacation Scheme. I was part of the third scheme, but this didn’t stop my colleagues still being enthusiastic and willing to help and explain things to me. The other interns were nice, and we got on well at the socials, however it would have been nice to spend more time with them.
The first day of the internship, we were given extensive training about all the software used at Deloitte, and then the audit specific software. The people we had worked with during the summer vacation scheme were asked to provide feedback including things you could improve upon, which allowed you to better develop your weaker skills.
We were treated the same as new graduates at the firm would be, and given the same level of responsibility, so I feel it gave an accurate portrayal of how it would be if you were to start work at Deloitte. It was also useful to speak to others you were working with about their experiences working for the company.
The internship was really good at giving an accurate depiction of the company culture. Most employees work much harder and longer than expected from the core working hours if needed to finish the work in time for the client. There seemed to be lots provided for you to get involved with outside of work.
The summer vacation scheme provided a valuable insight into the audit profession, and everyone was keen to answer any questions you may have about working in this line of business in the future. The scheme was long enough to show you what a career as an auditor would be like.
Everything Else
There were a couple of socials organized for the interns and their buddies, which were a great way to catch up and learn more about the projects that interns in other lines of the business were working on. It also allowed you to network with other Deloitte employees outside your department.
Yes, it was a good experience to have.
