The Role
To a large extent. It was hard work, but that much was expected. There was a great variety of tasks and projects that I was able to immerse myself in, and I greatly enjoyed the challenge of doing so.
Absolutely. I had not quite anticipated just how much my opinion would be valued given that I was an intern and my colleagues have much more experience. Once I was used to it, it became something that I could embrace and use to demonstrate my skills.
The existence of a buddy scheme meant that there was always someone on hand to provide advice, however informal, and there were great benefits to that. Beyond that, everyone on the team was very approachable whenever I had an issue I needed resolving, and it made the whole experience a lot smoother and more enjoyable.
At the beginning of summer, i was not so busy, and neither were my team. They assured me that it was quieter than usual due to a number of factors, and that things would speed up, and they were definitely correct. About half way through the internship I became very busy and remained so for the duration of the ten weeks. It was good that way because I got the chance to really get a taste for what the job entailed and to perform more tasks.
At the beginning not so much because the team was still adjusting to me and trying to understand how exactly I would be able to help them out. But the nature of tasks broadened greatly over the internship and I found myself performing more important tasks, for example directly producing inputs into shareholder meetings - and that was great.
I do not come from a finance background at university, so while the technical knowledge is not directly transferable to my degree, there are many things that I can take from my experience at Rothschild that will certainly assist me. My skill improvements in teamwork, networking, presenting, communicating, and also in computing are things that will definitely help me. I also had the chance to extend my network in great ways which of course can only be a good thing moving forward. Finally, I am absolutely positive that I wish to work in finance post-university, so the technical aspects will help me then.
The Company
Extremely friendly even despite the great amount of work that was being done within tight deadlines. In that respect I couldn't have really asked for more. Each and every person I worked with was helpful and polite to me and valued my efforts.
Extremely well. I struggled to think of improvements when asked. The inclusion of a mid-term review session was helpful in allowing interns sufficient time to address their areas of improvement throughout the programme, and the training week laid a great foundation for work on the desk.
Very well, there was a training week which boosted my knowledge handsomely. But even beyond that there was constant assistance whenever I needed it, allowing me to acquire new skills and knowledge throughout the ten week period.

I have experienced Rothschild before, and my experience last time prompted my return. I love the firm and it's culture and so prospects are very appealing indeed.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene. We got to know each other better through a number of social events kindly laid on by HR and we also had additional social nights that we organised independently. Everyone was very approachable and it was great to intern alongside them.
The cost of living and going out in London is of course not cheap, but it is manageable and similar to other western European capital cities.
Pretty good, we enjoyed some great intern nights out in the area and there is a lot of variety to explore!
Yes absolutely, structured social events both with my team and also the intern class. Outside of that we were also offered the chance to get involved in many firm wide sport and charity events.
