About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the three weeks I spent at KPMG. It gave me a valuable insight in to my business area which has consolidated my desire to join the graduate programme.
I felt well-respected during my insight, and was given real responsibility to contribute towards proposal and project work from day one.
I was given support mainly by an E-grade on the graduate programme. She was extremely helpful and gave me as much work as she could. I do feel however, that more thought should be put in to what areas interns are to be put in, and what the workload will look like during the three-week internship, as at times, despite asking various people in my team, there was very little/ no work for me to do.
This is not applicable to my degree programme. However, i do feel that my time in KPMG will give me a better perspective in my current job as a primary school teacher. I also developed my PowerPoint and Excel skills, which are transferable to most professions.
The Company
The induction to the company and allocation to my business area was very structured. The process of receiving formal feedback from a performance manager was also very structured. I would suggest conversing more closely with each business area to ensure that there is sufficient work to be done when the intern begins the insight. At time I felt that people were searching for anything they could get me to do. I also feel I would have benefited early on from a session explaining the structure/ various business areas in Advisory.
The atmosphere was extremely pleasant and I was made to feel at home very quickly. It was extremely refreshing.
I did not receive personal training, only conversations with current employees, so I am not in a position to say how much the company invested in me.
A very valuable insight. Getting to speak to current employees on the graduate programme was very helpful.
Everything Else
I was paid a base rate of £8.34 per hour, which was made up to the national living wage of £9.40 by some form of sick pay allowance I believe. As i was paid as a contractor, I was not paid the £3,90 daily lunch allowance that full-time employees receive.
After work drinks and dinners; business area picnic at Royal Kensignton Gardens
