The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship at EY. I found that I got lots of exposure to a variety of clients and was able to interact with my fellow colleagues at many opportunities both during the course of my work and at office socials. I found the work engaging and interesting and everyone was so willing to help me. It could only have been made better if it was a little longer. I felt I was becoming really confident in my role in the last few weeks.
I felt very valued by my colleagues, I was given the opportunity to socialise at various lunches and after work socials and I felt I could discuss any issues with any of my colleagues. I built up a few very close friendships with a few of my colleagues which I will continue even after my internship. I received lots of praise for my work and was given pointers on how to improve in the future. I feel it could only have been better had I had more time to spend with them.
I was very supported throughout my time at EY. I had a great relationship with my councillor and was able to discuss any issues I had with them in complete confidence. My buddy was also hugely supportive and pointed my in the right direction regarding issues I felt I would not want to discuss with my councillor.
Some days I found myself much busier than others. I very much enjoyed being busy and I found that whilst I was out on client sites that I was very busy. Whilst in the office I found that I would spend small periods of time on each project I was given and so was busy with lots of different tasks. I was not under any time pressure and so took my time to ensure I was producing high quality work. There were periods of time where I did not have much to do and so I spent my time doing online courses on the EY portal. I felt I could have been more busy but I feel that the balance was almost perfect.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility in my internship however I always knew there was someone reviewing my work and I felt it was a good balance. I was entrusted with performing some very complicated and detailed tasks and I was also allowed to speak to clients about some very complicated and confidential matters. When my work was reviewed I was given pointers on how to best proceed in the future which I appreciated.
I feel that my time at EY has hugely helped me in my studies. I am beginning to see the bigger picture and I am far more interested in my studies now than I was before my internship. I feel I have also developed my interpersonal skills and I now know how to interact around an office and speak with confidence to clients, this is something beneficial to me outside of my University life.
The Company
The atmosphere was great in the office. It was serious at times when work must be performed or there was a very complicated task being performed but generally there was lots of laughter and everyone was happy to talk to you from School Leavers all the way up to Partners. It was a nice place to be and everyone was so helpful and wanted to make sure you were having a good time and making the most of your internship.
The internship was very well organised. We spent the first day down in London and then we we returned to our regional offices the following day. We had various conference calls which were very well organised and everything was communicated by email and instant messenger which was brilliant. Our time was allocated well and we found that we had everything we needed to make the most of our time with the firm.
We were allocated a councillor who worked with us very closely to set our goals and to ensure that we were working to try and attain them. We were also given various online webinars and courses to complete and I felt this was a good way to ensure we were up to date with our responsibilities and we were aware of how to best complete the tasks we had set for us. I feel at times I was not quite sure of what I was supposed to do in order to complete a task but I felt I could ask if I was stuck.

Working from home
Employment with the firm is hugely appealing following my internship. I am currently waiting to find out if I will be offered a graduate role or not hence why I could not give this a 10 but I definitely believe that EY is a brilliant firm to work for and this is also shown by the number of past and present employees who speak so highly of the firm. I have my fingers crossed for a graduate offer from the firm following my internship.
The Culture
Yes, I was able to attend various office socials and there was always something going on. I was invited to an event on my first day in the office and I very much enjoyed being included right from the get go.
I live in the city anyway so it was not particularly unusual and I live at home and so do not have to pay rent. However the city is expensive generally so I feel an 8 is an appropriate score here.
There were so many places to go out at night. I did not make the most of this though as I wanted to be as fresh as possible at work.
There was lots of opportunity to do activities outside of work from sport to getting involved in the EY Foundation. There was always something to be involved in.
