The Role
My Lidl placement was great! I was based in Weston Super Mare living in Bristol. When relocating straight away the Lidl team were advising me where to move and helpful things. However when I comes to this placement scheme it is the best. I scrolled through this page for hours when I was looking to go on placement and no other programme stands out and can offer you the type of exposure Lidl can.
Throughout my year placement I felt very valued any work I done was appreciated and always feedback on the work that had been completed. With Lidl the more your work is trusted the more responsibility and opportunities you will be given which will only benefit your experience.
I felt like there was a lot of guidance throughout the spine of Lidl at various different levels. They understand and respect that you're a placement student so they're there if for any reason you need them whatever it may be.
Lidl is non-stop there should never be a moment where you aren't doing anything. In the RDC (where the offices are) everyone is working very hard to support the guys in the stores to make everyone's life easier. My personal opinion the busier and harder you work again you'll be rewarded with more exposure to the business whether that is a senior meeting or a project given to you to complete by senior management.
Lidl aren't afraid to throw you straight into a situation to see how you can handle it. I was given various projects throughout my time with the company and I believe by putting me in those types of situations made me come out the back of it with a more professional mindset and with a very high amount of confidence.
Massively. You have to respect that in university there are aspects of business that can't be explained in words and that you actually have to see it happening first hand in front of you. I found this during my placement on numerous occasions. However, there are many theories that you use from your degree which you can link together which are very helpful especially when managing people.
The Company
Always a very fun vibrant team. Always had a laugh never too serious and considering that people are of an older age than myself And we were all on the same page was a relief. However when I came down to work everyone is very switched on and focused with the task in hand. Also a lot of friendships have developed within the offices over the years which is great to see.
Very good. Organisation was very good throughout the whole year everything was on place when moving from different departments apart from a couple of minor blips. Our head office supervisors was great and helped us all a massive deal.
Lidl allowed me to gain a great amount of training within every department that I was lucky enough to spend time in. They also sent me on various training courses where i was on these courses which were much my senior in terms of professional and age. However, these were great experiences as you're mingling and working alongside people of a high professional matter to the business so gives you the chance to impress and make a name for yourself.

I would love to return to Lidl as I have really enjoyed my last 12 months. I have expressed my interest to the organization in my desire to return once completing my degree and I believe from the responses that I have recieved that could be a possibility, which is great.
The Culture
The fellow placement student during this year were great. There were 17 of us year scattered around all the different regions around the country. However, three times in the year we'd stay over in a hotel in London and have a training day and catch up with what everyone has been doing. After the training has been completed we'd all go for food and drinks and was a very social environment. After this year I can say I've made some great friends who were my fellow placement colleagues. Due to one of the meetings being two weeks in a hotel in London whilst working in Head Office which allowed us a lot of time to bond
The cost of living in Bristol isn't too bad however it's not the cheapest place to live.
In Weston Super Mare there isn't much going on around the office to be honest
Not particularly apart from our end of year placement day which was great fun.
