The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Pfizer. My team were highly supportive and very friendly making my placement year a very positive experience. The overall culture was very welcoming and open and I fitted in very quickly with my team. Within the role itself I was always kept busy and given real responsibility which allowed me to constantly learn and develop throughout the year. Overall my placement at Pfizer has been an unforgettable experience and has provided me with lifelong skills.
My team were very welcoming and there was always a very open and friendly environment which made me feel very valued by my colleague’s right from the beginning. As I managed my own projects I felt extremely valued and trusted by my colleagues.
My manager was always on hand with guidance and support when I needed it. I could ask questions freely and openly which meant that I could learn more quickly and the support from my manager has largely contributed to my development throughout the year. I have completed all my objectives set out at the beginning of my placement and had regular one to one catch ups with my manager to discuss my progress which has been extremely beneficial.
Even though at some points in my role I was extremely busy, I really enjoyed the high workload as it allowed me to effectively build on my multi-tasking and organisation skills. My manager and other team members also offered help and support if I needed it at times when the department was extremely busy.
I was given a high amount of responsibility from day one. I have worked on a number of different projects, some independently and some in a team setting. I have been treated as a full time colleague and have developed my confidence as a result of being trusted with a high amount of responsibility.
I have significantly developed my communication skills through liaising with different managers and colleagues throughout the business and have also developed strong team working skills through various project work and volunteering. These skills will be very important in my studies and also beyond in future employment.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office has been very upbeat and open which has allowed for free flowing conversation and the opportunity to get to know my team and ask any questions as and when they arise. The atmosphere has significantly contributed to the positive experience I have had at Pfizer and made me feel very comfortable when asking questions when I needed help.
My placement was very well organised from the start, my team had a plan for my placement year and I didn't had a time when I was not working on a task which has allowed me to also see other aspects of the organisation. If I wanted to get involved in other projects I was able to do so.
Most of the training I received came directly from my team which I really enjoyed. I spent time shadowing in telephone interviews which then allowed me to build my confidence and go on to conduct my own telephone interviews and grow my knowledge of recruitment practices. I also competed my Yellow Belt Six Sigma Certification whilst at Pfizer and was able to volunteer which allowed me to develop different skills and use my recruitment knowledge.

I'm not sure about the future employment prospects at the organisation. Hopefully there might be a job available for me to apply to when I have finished university. A graduate programme has now been introduced which means that future employment prospects are higher!
The Culture
Yes lots of placement students organised nights out and events. Everyone was very sociable and lots of students also shared accommodation which made it easier to get to know one another.
Surrey is an expensive area so the cost of living was what I expected. There were many local pubs and you could easily get to London for a night out so socialising opportunities were high. I feel that the salary received made up for the expensive area.
The nightlife was good as there were a few pubs and clubs but it was much better to make the effort to go into London for a night out. We did this a few times and it was a really fun good night out and living so close to London made it much easier to get there and back.
I was involved in volunteering which was a nice way to use the skills I have developed on my placement. I also regularly went out with my team for dinner and social events, which was a nice way to get to know each other outside of work.
