The Role
I had the best year working for Lidl!! This placement gives you the opportunity to rotate around a variety of departments, has provided me with a stronger skill set and challenged me every day!
In every department I was always given a chance to succeed, with my colleagues championing my success. Working my way up from trainee to management I was respected and in turn became a valued member of 'Team Lidl'.
Throughout the year I would send weekly progress reports to my manager at Head Office and line manager in the region. These gave me a chance to not only document what I had achieved that week but to highlight to my managers what I needed help with or what I wanted to develop on. There were always only a call away and I felt fully supported in every module.
There was never a dull day on placement! I always had exciting projects to work on and meaningful work to be completing. If you're a hands on and a rearing to go kind of person, the working environment at Lidl is the place to be.
From day one it was made clear that I was going to be tasked with important responsibilities. Throughout my placement my responsibilities varied from managing small teams in store, worked on department projects and completing work directly for senior management including board directors at Head Office.
I have become a better version of myself this year!! The skills I was weak on when I first started are now some of my strongest assets. I have developed as a person and as a young professional, building on skills that I hope to take into future roles. Going into my final year at university I feel confident in obtaining a good degree classification knowing that the skills developed on placement I will be able to transfer into my day to day life.
The Company
On top of our basic training and developmental appraisals, I was able to take charge of my own learning and attend training seminars of my choice. These included Change Management, and Store Manager development training. I attended Head Office based training in Supply Chain, Emotional Intelligence and career development.

Having loved my placement and having a flavour of what I would be like to work for Lidl; I hope to gain employment when I graduate. Their graduate roles and schemes are very appealing!
The Culture
I have made some great friends on placement and had so much fun working alongside them. Fellow colleagues were like minded, welcoming and showed interest in our development.
Working in the Welsh region, I found the cost of living quite low! Depending on where you are based this will vary.
Again depending on the region this varies.
