The Role
This job was my dream job. I love that it was a large corporation and therefore a lot of training is in place in order for us to make the most out of the job experience
I definitely felt like part of the team rather than an intern. I did have to do some tedious, time consuming jobs but this is just part of the job and not something that was given to me just to fill in time
In our little communications team, the head of communications decided to give both me and the other intern a mentor so that any problems, we could just speak to them. We therefore had a catch up with them every so often and a quarterly report on our performance so that we could improve and be praised.
Sometimes a little too much work at short notice however that is the nature of my job in PR. I was definitely never bored and constantly had something that was important to do.
We took media calls where one wrong word and you could ruin the comapany's reputation. This was a lot of responsibility but I liked the trust element that we were good enough at our jobs in order to do this.
The head of communications kept giving me tips she had learnt in her career which were invaluable. The most important one that contrasts with everything university tell you: it's OK to get things wrong!
The Company
When I first started, we moved office into an open work space environment so got rid of all the partition walls. This improved the atmosphere however for me, things are slightly a little too quiet sometimes. That being said, we are at work with things to do so I feel I wouldn't be happy if 'the fun never stopped!'
Very organised as my position was already set up for the past few years from previous interns so I had manuals and a lot of help from my predecessor before she left.
We had a vast amount of training through a project called 'Build.' This included an introductory training day when we first began then numerous skill workshops throughout the year to help us with things such as time management.
Would love to work here or in a place just like it as no day is the same yet the day is still organised and there are still rules and guidelines set in place to follow which I like, rather than a different person telling you different things every day.
The Culture
We are highly encouraged to interact with the other placement students and as a result of a Bosch Placement group that was set up, I lived with 3 other interns who were in different departments so there were many social events in the different departments that we attended.
We socialised a lot as it is cheap enough unless you go into Central London. Our rent was under £450 a month so was considerably cheaper than I imagined so I was very pleased with the monetary situation
There are a few pubs that are good for a group of us however only 1 club in Uxbridge which isn't spectacular. Nothing compared to Manchester nightlife which I am used to.
Yes due to me living with other placement student who got invited to things. There is always someone up for doing something. If I lived alone however, I doubt I would be involved in nearly as much.
