The Role
I've been working on various projects and been a full part of the team. I felt like being part of the company and respected as any other person working with me. I wanted this placement and this company and now I know why. Arup is a big family full of talented and lovely people which is why they have the possibility to work on very interesting projects.
They accepted me with my skills and personality. I've been asked to help in different project even in some project that I wasn't specially involved but when chatting with my colleagues they knew that I could give a hand regarding this or that. A good example of why I felt valued by everyone is the equality between all the staff - the tea break could be served by either myself or a graduate engineer or a project manager or even the director herself!
I had free hands to work but at ANYTIME my colleagues, project managers or even my director were available to help regarding any of my requests/issues. I found this availability towards myself absolutely amazing. My manager always took time between two meetings to chat in face to face or give a call when I needed it.
It was a great balance between days very busy and days less busy were I could help some of my colleagues. They did the same for me when I was having a busy day. However I've never felt bored or too busy but it is just my personal opinion.
As part of the team I had responsibilities upon my shoulders but as a trainee I didn't have the same responsibilities than my colleagues which was something appreciable. I had time to learn before taking the responsibility for something and this was something really clever from the company. They gave me more responsibilities all along my placement with a constant support from my colleagues.
The skills I've won were unexpected before starting my placement. I gained a lots of skill either in technical field or management or economics etc. It was a great experience and an amazing value in my CV. Having given the chance to work within Arup was a huge opportunity in my career and opened up a lots of other opportunities.
The Company
A family atmosphere with regular events planned.
Extremely organised as everything within the company.
They invested more than I was expected with personal training. They paid for some expensive training just upon my request.

Lots of my friends and people I met were jealous about my position within Arup. This company is a jewel for any engineer.
The Culture
Just perfect.
I did my placement in Cardiff which is a really cheap city to live in!
Full of pubs, nightclubs, restaurants, cinemas, bowling etc.
As a city and the capital of Wales, Cardiff offers a lot of activities!!!
