The Role
The work is basic and repetitive and there are "cliques" in the office. The work environment often feels hostile.
They often have socials, but it's hard to feel included with people who have been friends for years. You are with 30+ other placement students, so they become your friends.
They give a few weeks training at the beginning, but after that they get a bit annoyed if you are continually asking questions. In addition, they don't help with any university, just tell you what you can't write in your assignments.
Mostly little to do until a deadline was coming, and then you'd be rushed to achieve more.
Given little responsibility, this was left to team leaders and managers.
I developed communication skills and some basic excel skills
The Company
You weren't allowed to talk in the office, we only talked when managers left the room.
The previous placements had already left, so had no one to partner up with. In addition the new placements started after I left so it was very hard to hand over work.
They had small training sessions part way through the year to update on any skills or anything you may have forgotten at original training.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Very little chance for progression. When there is they don't choose on skills and experience, but who is closer with management.
The Culture
Made friends for life with other placement students, as you're with 30+ other people and can live with them if you need to share accommodation.
Work was in Tockwith, so could choose from Leeds or York. I lived in York which could be pricey, but it was lovely and plenty to do. Most students lived in York.
Great nightlife in York and often went on nights out in Leeds
There were plenty of opportunities and you're close to 2 cities, but you need to find these yourself, the company won't help you.
