My 3 different supervisors for the summer vacation scheme were very engaging and spent a lot of time (from their busy schedules) in mentoring me and setting me interesting work tasks. • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • - The summer vacation scheme was a fantastic insight into the career of a lawyer in a top commercial law firm. Lots of presentations and workshops were put on for us outside of our work in our departments and this enabled us to gain a broader understanding of the various areas that the firm works in. This really informed us of the career opportunities available at a city law firm.

This open door policy made my time at the firm very enjoyable as it didn't feel as though students on the scheme were being unduly scrutinised or put under too much pressure. The firm was genuinely a place that I looked forward to going into every morning.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • - During the summer vacation scheme I was paid £400 per week across the three weeks. This was/is a very good salary for a vacation scheme considering how competitive they are to get onto and it was very much appreciated.

The social events allowed us to engage on a more relaxed level with lawyers of varying seniority and it was particularly nice to be able to ask any questions that we had without thinking that we were being judged. In addition, if we had particular interests in certain departments of the firm we were encouraged by the graduate recruitment team to get in touch with various key contacts and they were always more than happy to take us out for coffee and tell us more about their work and what it involves.
