The Role
Really enjoyable 10 weeks a lot of social activities and challenging work.
Really great people made a huge effort and always willing to listen.
Line manager was great and the buddy scheme provides an additional level to ask questions to.
Had a lot to do and the objectives system allows you to monitor your own progress against your objectives so it is clear to see what you are doing and what you should be doing. Also allows you to add value through going above and beyond the objectives.
Given a multitude of tasks including visiting senior firm members, delivering presentations and testing of a new feed which was a big project on my desk.
Excel skills as well as number skills and economic analysis.
The Company
Had a few inter intern events as well as a team social, one organised by me and one by the team. All really good fun and developed a good relationship with the team.
Very well coordinated - team was ready for me and the training week ran smoothly, had a permanent desk and was given things to do from day 1.
One week of training initially which was good but could feel a little bit like a long lecture at times. Additional speaker events were put on to give a broader insight into the firm and industry as a whole.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
Was made an offer at the end of the internship which I plan to accept as the graduate scheme is a solid one with a lot of perks.
The Culture
Three whole bank intern events then a couple of division specific ones - felt that there could have been more set up in the earlier weeks of the internship as opposed to having three or so weeks without any kind of event.
Canary wharf is really expensive - a lot of team events etc. took place in more affordable parts of London as Canary Wharf is such an expensive place to socialise.
People were usually out for meals/drinks after work on the majority of days and there was usually a group of interns that you recognised who were relaxing after the days work.
Some of the sports events were with the whole firm and in leagues outside of the firm, in addition to this there was a volunteering day which many enjoyed, unfortunately mine was cancelled due to riots, but generally a lot of activities that gave a lot of exposure to varies people in and out of the bank.
