The Role
I loved my time at Pernod Ricard UK. Everyone was extremely supportive of me during my internship, and I was given the opportunity to write, manage social media, attend and organise events, and work with various other departments.
Pernod Ricard UK truly are 'creators of conviviality' and this shows in everything that they do. They really treat their staff well, and there is a tangible feeling of mutual trust and respect between employees and their employers.
I was extremely well supported by my team, they gave me great advice in terms of my role but also for moving forward in the future.
As with most roles, there were some busier periods and others which were less-so. However I was generally very busy, working across the full communications spectrum and supporting the team.
I was never given a task which was too advanced for my capabilities, but I felt that I was given a great deal of responsibility for tasks and trusted by my team and management.
This was an invaluable experience for me and gave me a great head start in terms of developing workplace skills for life. I know that in the future I'll be able to use my organisation and time management skills in any role, as well as the more specific skills I gained which focused purely on communications.
The Company
From wine tastings to evenings in the trade, Pernod Ricard UK is such a fun place to work. The staff are really valued and seem to have a great time together, and there's always loads to get involved with outside of the jam-packed calendar of social events, which usually focused on tasting new products and bar skills.
The internship was very well organised in general, and my team were always ensuring I had the support that I needed in order to complete tasks and fulfil my role to the best of my ability. My only criticism would be that each internship is managed by department, as opposed to a HR managing all the interns to ensure they are all at the same level and receiving an equal amount of training and support with their role.
I was offered various training schemes at Pernod including Bar School, Presenting with Passion and others, but no training that was specific to my role as my team was very small at the time.

I'd love to work for PRUK again, and was encouraged to stay on-top of any further opportunities by my manager. However, I was not considered for openings in my team at the time of my departure as the roles in question were too senior for me.
The Culture
I had a great time with the other interns and we all grew close by the end of our placements, however as several of us were not London based, it could be difficult to socialise outside of Pernod's company events and parties.
Chiswick is a beautiful place to work, and some purchases on the business park and in the local area were subsidised/subject to monthly offers. Overall though, Chiswick is a very expensive part of London and as a result maybe not the best on an intern's budget.
There were a good variety of bars and pubs locally to the office, two of which were on the park itself, but Chiswick is largely a residential area so there wasn't much in the way of late-night bars or clubbing. Despite this, there are decent transport links along the District line which is helpful for moving elsewhere later on in the evening.
There were opportunities for volunteering, several sports and fitness clubs and also usually offers from our partners/Marketing department (event tickets etc.)
