The Role
I really enjoyed my time working at KPMG. It was a good opportunity to be able to get some hands on experience of what it would be like to work in professional services industry.
Everyone I encountered on my internship was very friendly and welcoming. I was very surprised that I was actually doing work for real life clients and it was a good feeling to know that my work actually meant something and would be used within the overall audit.
I was given sufficient support and guidance. Working in audit means employees are in and out of the office all of the time, so it was hard to coordinate meet up times with my performance leader, but we were able to communicate via email and any questions or worries that I had were answered.
Throughout my time at KPMG, I worked on four different audit clients across four different industries. I was always given plenty of work to do and if I completed that, it wasn't a problem to just ask if there was anything else I could help out with. I was only in the office 2 out of the 6 weeks that I was on placement.
I was surprised at the level of responsibility that I was given. The work that I completed was needed to aid the audit and it was good to feel part of the team and that I was able to be of actual help to the KPMG employees that I was working alongside.
I do think some more training could be provided at the start of the internship, perhaps 3-4 days so that everyone knows what it is to come in the 6 weeks. It was a bit daunting being sent to client site on the second day of the internship. I think the internship really helped with everyday skills such as communicating with team members and clients and also time management, which will definitely help in the future.
The Company
I was only in the office for 2 out of the 6-week long internship. Anyone I met was always friendly and willing to engage in a conversation.
Overall, it was well organised. There were a couple of days when there wasn't much work to be done by the interns. Apart from that, client work was fairly well organised.

Company Parties/Events
All interns were offered the opportunity to have a partner interview to be offered a place on the 2017 graduate scheme. I was successful in doing so and was told that high 90% of interns are converted to grad schemes.
The Culture
Yes, there was always something going on whether it was leaving drinks for a member of staff/summer party/activities organised specifically for the interns.
Being at Bristol university, fortunately i was able to live in my student house throughout the placement. Cost of living/socialising is fairly high in Bristol, however cheaper than London.
