The Role
I enjoyed working with the team, the people in the office were great and the intern class was fun too. Everyone was very helpful and willing to spend time to explain things to you (even if it is late in the night). You get the chance to speak to many other people from other teams and also sit in for calls or meetings with clients, which made the whole experience really enjoyable and enriching.
The people in the team gave me more responsibilities as the weeks progressed. They knew what I could do and constantly gave me opportunities to develop new skills and to be exposed to different parts of a deal/different projects. They also made me feel part of the team, keeping me involved and updating me on meetings that they could not allow me to tag along.
The analysts and associates in my team always made sure that I could handle the work and constantly checked in with me to ensure that I was not given too much work and that I was on the right track for the task. I felt comfortable asking them for any help and this saved me a lot of time on google and trying to figure out things on my own. I was also allowed to ask for tasks that I wanted to try find out more and the team tried their best to accommodate my requests.
Very busy. You would be kept occupied till late at night and there will always be more work that can be done. The team made sure that I was given enough work and that I was given the true experience of being an analyst in the team. I was allowed to manage my own time so I could still arrange to meet people for coffee chats and also to go out for a quick dinner before coming back and continuing my work.
As mentioned above, I was given more responsibilities as the team trusted me more and knew what I could do. They are not afraid to give you responsibility if they know that you can get the job done. They will make sure that you are ready and that you have their support whenever you need it when giving you more responsibility as well.
The skills that I learnt will definitely be useful for me in whatever I do. Learning how to manage the heavy workload, learning technical skills (modelling, valuation, excel, powerpoint) and also working with different people will definitely be useful in any job that you choose to do. The training that you get on the job is more useful than any training that you can possibly get online.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and approachable. They made sure that you are well taken care of - in terms of workload, your wellbeing etc. Everyone enjoys each other's company as well. Teams head out for lunch together sometimes, there are team bonding sessions every fortnight in my team where we go for drinks together. It is a friendly place to be and when it comes to work, everyone works hard and well together.
There were team learning sessions for all the interns, so we got to learn about all the other teams in the bank. There were also some social events that allowed us to network with fellow interns and also some of the full time staff in the bank. There was also a charity challenge that kept us occupied outside of work hours, so overall the programme was great.
There was a one week training session at the start of the internship where they teach excel, accounting, valuation and this sets you up nicely to start at your desk. But the training you get on the job is a lot more valuable and some teams do take the team to teach you more in depth valuations/processes. There was a mid internship review to let you know how you've been doing, followed by an end of internship review to let you know if you have improved since.

The bank can convert all interns and put everyone on the full time programme. So it is not competitive amongst the interns and everyone knows that we can all work hard together and get the conversion. The bank also has very strong dealflow, even with the Brexit, and they converted quite a number of interns as well.
The Culture
There were a couple of social events that the graduate recruitment team organised for all the summer interns in the bank, so that helped us get to know each other better. We tried to organise some drinks on our own but it was pretty hard to get everyone together as we had different work schedules.
City of London will be slightly pricier.
We had many late nights and on the occasional Fridays that we could knock off earlier, there are some pretty good pubs/clubs around the area.
There was only the charity challenge that the interns had to participate in.
