The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at KPMG. It was superbly structured, and I was given a Buddy, People Leader and a Performance Manager; 3 people were "taking care" of me. I always had work to do- real hands-on work. I highly recommend people to apply for the KPMG internship.
My colleagues were very inclusive of me. They invited me to all sorts of after-work drinks and socials, asked me out for lunch daily, and checked up on me to see if I needed any help or if I needed any more work to do. The people in KPMG are nothing short of amazing. My supervisors also helped me in the process of transferring departments to the graduate program of my choice.
I could not have asked for better supervisors. In total, I had 3 supervisors help me in communicating with the student recruitment team, in order that I get an interview for the graduate program of my choice for 2017. They were completely supportive and helped me in their own will.
I worked from 9am - 5.30pm daily. There was only once that I was needed to stay back until 7pm. Other times, I had fully utilised my 9am - 5.30pm and went home, being able to have time to myself to cook and such. During working hours, I always had something to do and I was grateful for that. It kept me learning and growing.
During my 4-week internship, I was given the opportunity to complete 3 entire projects - not just a part of them, but the entire projects. It doesn't just happen though, you have to ask for it! But I am so grateful for the amount of trust that my supervisors placed in me.
I am neutral on this - I now have different interests so I don't think I would go into the same department as I was in again. However, I still had the best time in the internship, and I definitely learned so much. The skills I developed that would assist me in the future would be soft skills - especially professionalism.
The Company
The office was lively! Something was always happening. We had Casual Fridays every last Friday of the month. There was drinks after work at least once a week. People were friendly and seemed to be really great friends with each other!
The internship in KPMG is the best I've ever experienced. Due to the volume of interns they have every year, it's no surprise that the internship structure is seamless. I had 3 levels of supervisors looking after me, tailoring my schedule such that I always had work to do, whichever team I was working for.
The company made me feel just like any other employee. I had my own laptop, account, entitled to pensions, flexible benefits, etc. I could also sit on an entire desk by myself. KPMG definitely did not make me feel inferior just because I was an intern.

By getting the summer internship in KPMG, I was fast-tracked to the final stage of the graduate programme application, which was a partner interview. And, based on history, the conversion rate is 75%! I just did my final interview today, so hope all goes well! It also depends on which department you are in- some hire solely from their pool of interns!
The Culture
Yes. My colleagues were always wishing each other well and catching up with each other. You could always take a break whenever you wanted and catch up with a colleague to learn new things, as long as you log in the amount of hours you should be working in the end.
Fairly expensive. But most people don't live in Canary Wharf itself. In fact, some of them don't even live in London. They live in Milton Keynes and Reading, making cost of living much lower. Socialising in the area is expensive as well, but it's almost always subsidised by KPMG if it's a company social event.
Nightlife was a buzz. There are tons of bars and pubs in Canary Wharf. Everybody went out for a drink, especially since I interned during the summer and the weather was lovely. People would also just hang out in the park in Canary Wharf.
Yes. KPMG requires that each employee does a minimum amount of hours of volunteering. There are also various clubs within KPMG - like sports, the gym, religious clubs, etc. I can't even remember all the opportunities available, but definitely no one was bored.
