The Role
The internship was great fun and a fantastic experience. Everyone who I spoke to, worked with and met were extremely kind with their time and very happy to help me. It was a great experience to be in the main KPMG office.
I was put to work on a project, which immediately made me feel that I was working towards something that would actively contribute to the kind of work that KPMG carries out. In meetings and discussions surrounding the topic, I would always feel that my opinions were heard and respected.
The moment that I went to a fellow member of staff with a problem they would, assuming they were not too busy, help me out. The main issue with being an intern is that there is such a gap in your knowledge compared to those working, however, the KPMG staff helped plug that gap as soon as they could.
I started off very busy as I was working on a project, however, as the weeks moved on I became less busy. It was bad timing as I arrived immediately post-Brexit when things were slowing down anyway. This, in turn, became very useful as I was able to focus my efforts and attention towards the presentation that I had to do for my partner interview.
I was given an understandable amount of responsibility given my position. I felt they respected my opinion as well as the work that I carried out. Normally, whilst working on a project I would be arranging data, which although sounds menial actually contribute to the analysis of the companies.
I thought it was really useful being in an office environment, particularly whilst still being at University. Certainly what I learnt during the internship will be extremely useful for me when I start my graduate Job at KPMG. I will feel more familiar in my surroundings and will be able to get working and contributing much quicker.
The Company
The atmosphere was very professional yet it wasn't tense or unfriendly. People would be happy to leave their screens for a question. Additionally, I would often eat lunch with other members of the team, from all levels of seniority. Needless to say, when there was a tight deadline people got on and work thoroughly.
The internship was well organised, the only issue being that the final decisions on the internships were not reached until a while after the internship had finished. However, the HR department organised a number of social events for all of the interns which were great fun and it was a great way to build your network.
I think the greatest investment came from the application process, it was in the end an extremely long process starting in November. The fact that the company put so much time into me in during me into that process really made me feel that they were really checking that I was the right person for the job. There are also a number of online training courses tht you can do when you work at KPMG, all paid for by the company.

Extremely high, the moment the job offer came through I took it. KPMG is a fantastic company to work for, either on a short-term basis or for a long term career. The support systems are incredible as well as the opportunities for training and development. I have no doubt that KPMG is a fantastic place to start your career.
The Culture
The social scene was considerable, particularly during the internship when the HR department laid on a number of events in which the interns were able to meet fellow interns. The events that they put on were usually were located around the office so in that regard they were very convenient! I thoroughly enjoyed socialising with the other interns.
It was high, however, that is expectable considering the main office for KPMG is in Canary Wharf. However, it is so beneficial for the company to be there so I feel that is worth it for being there. However, the transport links to the area are very good to all areas of london so there are options to move further away if it is too expensive there.
There are lots of opportunities like that at KPMG and they pride themselves on being able to considerably help community projects around the area. One of the tasks that we had was to present an idea that we had for a local charity. In addition, you are given a number of days leave so that you can go and help charity projects around the area.
