The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed this placement and after the 8 weeks placement was up I was delighted to be able to stay on for an additional 4 weeks.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Even when they were very busy they were more than happy to take 5 minutes to help me to learn.
There is a clear chain of command however everyone is very approachable and happy to help with any inquiries.
I was very busy most days but not overladen. Weekly resources meetings where held to ensure everyone was adequately busy and everyone in the team was pulling their weight.
I was involved in many projects and wrote many reports which where then sent to clients. I also conducted my own site visit to establish information for a tender bid.
The skills I have learnt have greatly helped me coming into my 5th year at university. I feel I have a much better understanding of many engineering principles I had previously learnt theoretically. I also feel my report writing has become professional and methodical.
The Company
The office was a very friendly and great place to work with lots of sports and social events running.
The placement was well organised considering the head of graduate recruitment was on secondment for the start and placement students had staggered start dates.
I took part in many training events at the start of my placement but I was also able to take part in an embankment dam training session in my last month even though I wouldn't be there much longer.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
I am very keen to go back and work for Motts after my placement and may possibly be working with them part time throughout the semester.
The Culture
I got the chance to meet other students and apprentices throughout my placement and to learn from them also.
I was based in the Glasgow office which was pretty standard for eating out/socialising.
There are many clubs/bars in Glasgow to suit everyone.
There where many sports clubs in Motts including badminton and hiking,
