The Role
The time I spent as an intern at Samsung was the best time of my life. I learnt so much in a relatively short period of time and met some great people with whom I still keep in touch. I broadened my network of contacts and my work experience, so the placement a very good start t my career.
Having been voted Champion of the Consumer Electronics department, I felt that my colleagues really appreciated my work. My colleagues came to me for advice and made me feel like I was really adding value to the team. I didn't really feel like an intern, but more like a valued employee.
I had great manager and supervisor who were there to guide and support me at every step if the way. I felt very nurtured by my manager and really appreciated the time and effort she put into making sure I was coping with the demands of my job. I gained some great people skills from the management team, helping me learn how to become a good manager myself.
Every day was packed with meetings, answering emails, going to conferences, store visits and focusing on my core projects. I often had to work overtime to meet the demands of my work, but really enjoyed every minute of it. Every day was different and brought new challenges and new opportunities.
During my internship at Samsung I undertook a great deal of high profile projects, from the internal launch of the new Samsung Smart TVs to rolling out shop in shops and premium displays in the stores of Samsung's premium retail partners (such as Selfridges and John Lewis). Having the opportunity to lead so many interesting projects has given me great exposure in the company and beyond.
The internship helped me to apply the knowledge I gained at university and expand on it, It really broadened my business acumen and helped me kickstart my career. Apart from hands-on learning on the job, I also attended formal training sessions. I definitely learnt a lot during my placement at Samsung.
The Company
The office was a very fun place to work in. We had access to the latest Samsung devices, gadgets and AV equipment, which made it even better. During the working day, the TV was always turned on in the background so we could listen to the latest news or listen to music. Everyone was really friendly, helpful and the company culture was laid back. However the dress code was formal.
The internship was well organised wih formal reviews and appraisals. From the beginning I was paired with a mentor and a buddy who were there fore me every step of the way. However, I also had the opportunity to steer my development by getting involved in projects that matched my skills and interests.
I was sent to formal training sessions, ranging from Project Management, to Communication all the way to Advanced Excel and Powerpoint. I really appreciated the resources that the company invested in my development. Moreover, I was made aware that if ever felt like there was an area in which I needed more support, I could always asked to be sent to a formal training session or learning course.

All the interns at Samsung who do well and prove themselves are guaranteed to get offered a full time role at the end of the internship. This is because the company is ever expanding and therefore always looking for fresh talent. There are also many opportunities to move within the organisation, gain experinee of working in various departments and also get promoted quickly.
The Culture
We were 10 interns a Samsung during the year when I did my placement and we really supported each other. Some of us had to work together on cross-departmental projects which deepened our insight into the business. We also had great social events after work, which was a nice way to end the day.
The cost of living in Chertsey, Surrey where Samsung is based was quite high. However the area was beautiful, very picturesque and I could go to lunchtime walks in the surrounding park with my colleagues. However, there were limited opportunities to go out in the area and it was quite far away from London.
There wasn't much of a nightlife in Chertsey (Surrey) where Samsung is based and it was quite far from London, so difficult to go out after work. Therefore, house parties became the norm. Also, there were a few pubs on the high street and some nice restaurants, so we could still enjoy ourselves after work.
There weren't many activities organised outside of work but there were many events and parties that i could go to. These made me feel like I was part of the team even more and gave me the chance to interact with my colleagues outside of work and meet new people.
