The Role
I enjoyed my time at RBS and learnt not only a huge amount about the job but about the sector as a whole. The team i was placed in was extremely helpful and treated me as a full member of the team.
I was treated as a member of the team and was given real responsibility, this for me was a shock because many internships do not trust or test the interns.
My line manager was not only a manager but a mentor to me and the other intern in the team. She gave u testing work but made sure everything was clear and we had the resources to achieve these objectives.
On a normal day I was fairly busy there were obviously lulls with regard to how intense the work was. I would say though that you are given ample opportunity to request more or less work if needed.
I was very surprised how much responsibility we were given. By the time the placement was over we were sitting in on high level meetings and our points and views seemed to be taken into consideration by senior members of staff. Also the changes that were implemented to my team were as a direct result of the work i had been doing.
In the work place it will allow me to interact with both senior members of staff and other graduates in a professional and confident manner.
The Company
The majority of the time the atmosphere was easy going and very pleasant, this allowed the team and myself to communicate freely.
The internship was very clearly set out and allowed us to make full use of our time inside the company. We had structured objectives and regular meetings with our line managers to make sure we were still on target and that we were making the most of our time inside the bank.
In terms of investing time into my personal development i had one on one meetings with my manger weekly to make sure firstly that i was comfortable but also that i was getting the most out of my time. Also e had alt of exposure to very senior members of staff who were forthcoming with advice on personal development.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
The prospect of further employment inside the the bank is extremely appealing and it is currently my preference.
The Culture
The interns on the program on the whole were very social and there was ample opportunity to go out and socialise with many different people.
Edinburgh is a capital city and therefore is expensive at the same time the Fringe festival was on which made drinks prices more expensive. That being said the it was one of the best summers i have had in a long time... Still though it was expensive.
We were in the centre of Edinburgh and the night life was second to non. Almost every night of the week had something different on and also the fringe meant there was almost constantly shows on.
Yes there were many opportunities. With regards to sport we had a five a side session on every week, also there was netball weekly. I joined a local rugby club also, so there was a wide range of different activities.
