The Role
I enjoyed my placement experience very much - I got given a huge amount of responsibility, which was nerve wracking at first but I really enjoyed the job. You get exposure to a wide range of areas in the company and many senior staff members.
I was surprised at how valued I was at the company - even though I was a placement my opinions and thoughts were considered. I was given a department to run and I had to make decisions and choices for that department, This meant that my manager and team members really valued my skills and opinions.
There was a lot of support given through mentor meetings with senior staff members and one to one's with managers. Everyone is so friendly at TJX you always feel very supported my your peers. Your manager invests a lot of their time helping and teaching you even though you are only there for a year.
If you are someone who likes to be busy TJX is perfect - there is never a dull moment and I was never bored! There is a perfect work/life balance.
Much more than I expected!! But I thrived on it! I loved having the responsibility and by the end I was beginning to become comfortable with it. It was a great feeling that people looked to me for direction and answers even though I was a placement student.
Organisational, Time management and Practical skills I learned on my placement will all help me greatly in my final year. As my degree is in fashion I think what I was able to learn in my placement will help me develop my projects at university much more.
The Company
Really fun! Everyone in the Merchandising sector of the company is quite young so it still feels like you are at University and have a peer group which is great.
Really well organised - it was very clear on what you needed to achieve in the year
