The Role
I really thoroughly enjoyed my experience - one of the best of my life. I was given so much responsibility when i was ready for it which made the work enjoyable but TJX's main selling point is it's culture of relationship building. It makes for a genuinely fun and rewarding experience that i'd recommend to anyone.
Very much so. You have regular meetings with your line manager for feedback and the person-oriented style of the company means that you work very closely with colleagues.
As much as you wanted - everyone in the company is willing to make time for anyone else to give support and guidance. I can't think of a time when I needed some support from someone and they weren't really happy to help.
Ranges from day to day, in a company growing as quickly at TJX and with as much going on as TJX it's genuinely true that no two days are the same. It's a really nice balance, there's always stuff to do but you're also encouraged to spend some time developing yourself and generally just informally interacting with colleagues.
Plenty - the first few months are spent mostly just getting to grips with the model of the company and the culture so you aren't thrown in at the deep end but beyond that I was doing the job of any other employee doing my role with no differences.
I feel infinitely more ready for a real work life beyond University following the placement. You're put through a fairly comprehensive personal development programme on stuff like time management and leadership competencies which is very useful but regardless of that just having the opportunity to work in an environment like TJX brings you on loads. I'd say that my interpersonal skills, confidence and industry knowledge were the skills I developed the most during my time there.
The Company
Very friendly. Everyone knows everyone and it's a very vibrant office. You're encouraged to build relationships with your colleagues across the whole business above all else which makes for a really nice atmosphere to work. It's a very casual and fun environment but also one which really gives you the opportunity to work to the very best of your abilities and stay busy at all times.
Everyone that comes through on the placement programme is effectively treated like a normal graduate employee which gives you great experience. It was well organised - you're automatically given initial training upon starting your role and then on-going included in various personal development throughout the year. You're also assigned a buddy to help you settle in. Efforts are made deliberately to give you experience across the whole business to give you a full understanding of how everything works rather than focusing you too specifically.
You're enrolled on a 'TJX University' type course where every month or so you're given personal development training sessions on a variety of skills. You're also given regular feedback sessions with your line manager and others and can develop your own custom personal development plan.

Very. I've already accepted a contract to go back after I've finished my degree and i'm really pleased with that. TJX focus on bringing graduate employees through the ranks and with the company growing at the rate it is there are so many roles available throughout the business.
The Culture
Yes - this was one area that really surprised me. They put you in a facebook group before you start with everyone starting at the same time as you (in my case about 50 people) so you can get to know people before you start and arrange living arrangements. This obviously allows you to make friends and a real emphasis in the early weeks are placed on building those relationships. It actually felt a bit like freshers week. Beyond that it's a very young company so there is a lot of social activity anyway amongst colleagues. Plus TJX encourages regular team days and parties etc and that also helps contributes to making the social aspects one of the most appealing TJX qualities.
Socialising was very good - the base is in Watford and there's plenty to do there for relatively cheap. I'd say I probably went out in Watford at least once a week throughout my placement, there's loads of pubs and clubs which loads of people from work go to on a Friday and Saturday night. The main highlight though is how close you are to London, it's about 15 minutes away from Euston and obviously once you're in London there's pretty much everything you could possibly want to do available to you.
There's a big Oceana and a couple of other clubs. Loads of pubs which everyone goes to after a Friday and a handful of bars too. Can't complain about it at all - loads of people from work go out together regularly which makes it very easy to settle into Watford. London is so close too.
Loads yeah - I played football every week with people from work that was organised internally. There are loads of team days and huge opportunities to get involved with charity work.
