The Role
I did a six week internship at Cushman & Wakefield in summer 2016 and would thoroughly recommend it. Each intern is placed into one team for the length of their stay based on their strengths and preferences. I worked in the City Investment Team and was challenged every day, learning a huge amount with great support and encouragement.
My team aren't likely to give out gold stars easily, which made it all the better when appreciation and gratitude came through. I felt part of the team and company culture within a week of starting. They gave good challenging work and were happy to explain inevitable gaps in my knowledge that arose.
My colleagues understood that I had not done a property-related university degree by this time, and so had a steep learning curve ahead of me. They made a great effort to take me aside every now and then to run me through investment strategy, core principles, cash flows, and more. The HR department give the perfect amount of support and freedom, supplementing our day-to-day learning with group workshops and seminars.
I was kept busy as a result of day-to-day tasks supported by long-term projects kept constantly on-the-go. Daily tasks included attending meetings, viewings and site visits, as well as the more office-based jobs of supporting colleagues wherever I was needed. I would spend time on the long-term projects during any quiet moments that arose. These included development site research, data collation, and a group intern presentation we gave in our final week.
As well as meeting clients at viewings and site visits whilst accompanying a member of the team, the main responsibility I was given with another intern was to conduct an investigation into potential development sites for a specific area of London. We conducted site visits, compiled data, and presented our findings to supervisors at the end of the six weeks.
The internship gave me a great grounding of technical knowledge and commercial awareness. These have been a real benefit to starting the MSc Real Estate course that I am on now.
The Company
A positive and encouraging ambitious atmosphere where people work hard but enjoy it and see the results.
The internship with organised seamlessly with a rigorous but clear and fair assessment process.
As well as day-to-day work with our teams, we had group seminars, skills workshops, and career-building activities organised for us.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Very appealing - luck enough to have been offered a job with them.
The Culture
Good social scene with plenty of clubs and activities to become part of.
Relatively expensive being in the City of London, but you just have to be careful about where you go and lots of cheaper options nearby.
Good nightlife being in a central location, with lots of options nearby.
Good social scene with plenty of clubs and activities to become part of.
