The Role
Although slightly disorganised at first, I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Atos. I was given lots of opportunities to learn new skills that I have since been able to apply to my University course and individual modules.
From day one, my colleagues were very welcoming and openly appreciative of any successful pieces of work/projects completed throughout my 12-month industrial placement.
I was fully supported by my line manager, manager and colleagues. There were lots of opportunities to develop professional friendships which meant that there was always someone willing to provide guidance or assistance when required.
I was quite busy on a daily basis but this was because I took an independent active involvement in work committees/other interesting projects on the contract. If I hadn't have done this then I may have been stuck for work.
I was given lots of responsibility during my industrial placement, taking a lead on projects that produced work for both senior managers and external clients.
I developed a lot of knowledge/experiences that I will be able to incorporate into my final year at University. Some skills will not be transferable due to the IT systems only being used by Atos and not other companies.
The Company
The office had a very lively and friendly atmosphere. I made a lot of friendships with colleagues both within my team and members working for other internal departments.
My initial training and induction was extremely organised. The first month or so of establishing my role within the company less organised, however this may be because I was the first Intern to complete a scheme on this specific contract.
Personal online training courses were available but nothing else was offered.
Future employment prospects within the organisation are very appealing. Atos is a large company with lots of exciting and innovative projects/contracts available to be involved in.
The Culture
There wasn't a great social scheme in the office that I worked in, possibly due to there only being two other industrial placement students working there.
The cost of accommodation, travel and socialising was extremely reasonable in the area that I both worked in, Thornaby and lived in, Middlesbrough.
It wasn't great but I lived only a taxi drive away from bigger towns/cities that had much better nightlife.
There probably were lots of opportunities to get involved in outside of work however not having a car restricted my ability to attend these. I joined a gym which was only a short walk away.
