The Role
The placement was fantastic, the challenges set are extremely motivating and the tasks that you are given to complete are much more valued than you would expect to receive during a placement
My Team was brilliant, as much as they were teaching me as I was new to the sector, I did not feel like I was treated any differently to any other colleague. My colleagues made me feel at home from the very first day.
My Management and Supervisors were excellent. The support provided was much more than I could have expected. The time taken to teach me was overwhelming.
I had a constant workload which kept me busy throughout each day. My manager had a meeting with me every Friday to discuss my workload, which helped to balance my workload.
I was given a lot of responsibility, but I still spoke to the relevant people if I was in doubt
Time management was developed through my placement year. The placement year has given me a drive to work hard this year to gain a career in a company of this level. Also, my ability to problem solve has greatly improved.
The Company
The office was always busy and enjoyable to be in. People understood when we could relax slightly and unwind, but it was also understood that we needed to drive and work hard to meet targets.
GSK were very well organised, from inductions and plans that have been set out. My only issue is with booking holidays with SRG. Sometimes, it would take multiple emails or waiting a long period for a reply before a holiday request was confirmed.
The company puts a massive emphasis on training and development. I completed many training exercises on a monthly basis, also attending some off site courses.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I would relish the opportunity to work with GSK again
The Culture
The placement students were excellent, everyone spends a lot of time together as we work together, train, go out and spend time together during the week and on weekends. I have now made friends for life.
The cost of living was slightly expensive due to being so close to London in terms of socialising. Rent can be quite expensive however grocery shopping is a regular rate due to the large supermarkets nearby. The train station was close which was a massive bonus.
The nightlife was quite good. Although Ware is a quiet town there are many places to go for food and drinks, with the local town next to it being more lively at weekends. Being so close to London provided a fantastic nightlife.
From football teams to social groups there was plenty of opportunities. With the group of placement students there is always plans to go somewhere at the weekend, and a group of us played 5-a-side football every Thursday after work. With the colleagues you meet at work, further social activities are opened up. In my last few months at GSK, a few of my Fridays were booked off to go play golf and relax for the day
