The Role
From a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it 10 out of 10. Better than expected and as described on the internship description!
The majority of colleagues understood my educational background and treated me according to it. But as in every business and in our ordinary life there are also people/colleagues who look down on you or treat unfairly. However, the latter is a minority.
To the greatest extent. No matter how "stupid" or "smart" was my question I always got an answer. The guidance provided by my managers was instructive and towards my personal development
This was project-dependent. There were weeks that I had to put extra hours whereas (rather rarely) days where I had nothing to do than to build up some social network
It depends on the project and on your manager. I was given full ownership on a year-long project whereas great responsibility on smaller tasks which were parts of a bigger project of which my manager was accountable of
To be honest, I was over-qualified for the internship. Thus, I was just using the already my already and working skills. It would be totally unfair if I would not mention that the internship scheme assisted me into booming my competences!
The Company
Friendly, cosy, with both formal and informal occasions!
to the point! Well organized!
It is hard for a company to invest on you from day 1, but from my experience the more confident you are the more tasks and flexibility you will get --> indication of trust and "investment"
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Great! if someone shows the competences and the social skills that the company "demands" then I cannot see any reason not to get hired or to get a role within the company. I would say that the chances are in your favour.
The Culture
All fellow interns shared the same values and views regarding the internship and we created strong bonds both working related and social!
My internship was located in Birmingham. Trying to give an objective expenses rate I believe that living cost varies from 500-800. That includes accommodation, commuting expenses and going-out cost! Bham is by far cheaper compared to London, Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin and Munich.
Coming from a big city (Athens) and having travelled to many of the global metropolis I would say that the nightlife in Birmingham is just fine! don't expect crazy parties or numerous of bars. It is just enough not to get bored and end up going to the same places every time you go out. Try to be open-minded and trying out all kind of bars/restaurants/coffee shops you bump into!
Social activities organized by social media, sport events organized by the local sport teams and so much more! Just "stay connected" and search the internet because there is always something happening!
