The Role
I enjoyed the internship a lot as it was well structured and there were always informative talks every week, and tasks from the team that were organised for me throughout my time with them. Furthermore, all employees were very friendly, engaging and were always open to answer any questions I had.
Throughout the 10 weeks, there was always emphasis placed on the importance of the interns and how we would be the future of the business. Everyone that worked at BAML felt it was important to give us their time and knowledge to help make the internship a valuable experience for us interns.
We were allocated line managers and buddies for each rotation we did on the internship. This was a great way of the interns feeling they had core people to talk to regarding any issues or general queries they had. I felt it was very easy to talk to my line managers and buddies and they were always available for a chat if I needed and HR had also scheduled meetings throughout the 10 weeks.
I never felt there was a time when I had nothing to do. My line managers had made sure that the projects given to me were not only big enough to do in 4 weeks but also interesting too. However, I also had to complete daily tasks such as morning meeting notes etc that were useful for the team to read. As there was always a task to do or someone to shadow, the days flew by.
I would say that a fair amount of responsibility was given to the interns. We were not told what to do all the time as we were usually given our tasks at the start of the rotation, and it was up to us as to how we tackled them and when. It was also our responsibility to reach out to any one that we wanted to shadow or meet in order to extend our knowledge of the business.
I would say the internship developed a lot of skills such as communicating with fellow colleagues, working to deadlines and completing tasks well and on time. Furthermore, it also built on the importance of proactivity and team work. The training we received in the first week was very good as it covered all products within in the division and not just the desks we would be interning on so it gave us a broader view of what the rest of the floor do.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was very friendly. Most people were very open to interns to shadow them or have meeting with them.
I felt the 10 weeks were well organised. The training week was very useful and during the internship, there were weekly talks scheduled for us on certain days to broaden our knowledge. However, there were also a number of evening networking events at various locations around London which made the intern experience even more enjoyable.
The company invested a lot into the interns. We received excellent training from an external company during the first week. Additionally, each intern had their own Bloomberg account which we also received training on how to use too. Having a Bloomberg account was very useful in my learning throughout the 10 weeks and it was good to learn how to use as this is something that all employees use on a daily basis.

The Culture
Yes, there are many societies and diversity networks within the company that were advertised to the interns so there were a number of networks we could join and reach out to people from. Societies included a touch rugby team that both female and male interns were encouraged to join.
