    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Coming into work is always an enjoyable experience mostly due to the friendliness of the other people in the office. The work is interesting and challenging, but it's the coworkers that make it a good place to work.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much so. I was asked for my opinion on things early on, often when I lacked experience. I very rarely felt like I was being treated as an intern rather than a normal worker.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had thoughtful managers that considered my situation and the type of tasks that would suit me. We met regularly and they were always concerned for my well being. I have been able to talk to them in friendly terms about any topic and any question and they have always respected that I was a complete beginner to corporate life.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied a lot. At the start there were times when not a lot was happening, or we (as a group of interns) would have to sit through long but neccessary training and safety material. As the placement went on though, our calendars filled and everyone found that we had plenty to do to keep busy.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Considering my experience I felt that I was given a lot of responsibility in comparison to my expectations. It was one of the things that made coming to work interesting.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • N/A

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed. The office is very modern and well designed to accommodate conversations in meeting places and plenty of areas for informal meetings.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • AS there were over 20 interns, there were a lot of us to organise logistically, but I did not encounter anyone who felt like their internship was done on an ad hock basis. The company is experienced at taking interns, and it shows.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was treated as any other colleague in that any preference I showed in developing in a certain area was taken seriously and moves were made to see if it was possible to get me exposure in the team or subject I was interested in. It is something that is talked about a lot too, so personal development is never far from colleagues or managers minds.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The opportunities for graduates returning from an internship are high,

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As there were so many other interns it was always easy to find a group of people willing to join in a social event

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Coming from outside London meant that the cost of living in comparison was fantastic. Still, the office is in one of the more desirable areas of the city, so it wasn't quite cheap as chips level.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Birmingham is a big city, there are plenty of big nightclubs in the centre and loads of smaller neighborhoods that have cool scenes

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • With work so close to the university of Birmingham, you have access to the hundreds of societies and sports clubs that the student's union there organise (or at least you can while you are on placement and still technically a student). otherwise there are work running clubs, netball teams and also a football team I think.
