The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement and would recommended doing a placement like this to anyone.
Everyone was really welcoming and I felt that all my views and oppinions were valued at all times.
My mentor was fantastic and really supportive through out. She gave me enough space to do the tasks set but would always let me know that she was there if I ever required help and she responded to my quries stright away.
I was busy most days and could always find things to do. Some days I felt that I was almost too busy in comparisson to alot of other interns I know of. I only occassionally felt over whelmed by work but always managed to work through the tasks and felt I could ask for support if needed.
I was helping to plan events and given the main responsibility of recruiting and managing volunteers, sorting resources and writing report briefs. I was greatful to be given tasks that I could get on with independently.
The skills developed have given me self confidence in my ability to work within this field and suceed in my carreer. It made me aware of different job roles out there and confidence that I could reach my goals.
The Company
The office was extremely quite which I found quite intimadating. My direct team, However, where very friendly and chatty and there was always a supportive and calm atmosphere.
The placemnet was well organised with set tasks from day one. My mentor communicated with me frequently to allocate me tasks and I very much felt that there was always things for me to do.
They put on a CV and interview skills workshop day which was helpful and my mentor and members of the team had one on one sessions with me to tell me a bit about their job roles and give me advice on how to establish a carreer within the public health sector.
They are keeping me on in a paid capacity for three months.
The Culture
I think they would of been more oppitunities to get involved but I seemed a lot more busy with my placement tasks then they did and so had less free time to mix with them which was a shame.
London prices are very expensive and I was shocked when looking at flats in the area after living in Leeds. However, there are some cheaper places around to eat and drink when you look.
Im sure it would be gd as there are several bars and clubs. I live outside London, however, so I tended just to go to restaurants or bars after work which were very nice.
There were oppitunities as they have a net ball team and the interns organsised some activities.
