The Role
I had two summer internships with Costain, one on rail and one on highways. Both times i enjoyed my internship and i learned more things than i expected! It was the best career choice as well as academic choice since it really heped me with my studies as well
Everyone valued me and gave me the chance to learn and gain responsibilities and trust along the way
Everyone is very approachable and friendly as well as ready to answer any question and assist in any issues that come up
Usually the first month or so you just watch and learn and show your potential so your day schedule is not that busy! After that responsibilities start falling on you and the longer time goes by the more busy you get
By the end of my second placement i was sort of acting as a site engineer on some aspects of site and as an assistant site engineer on the rest, so i was given quite many responsibilities
Everything i was taught changed from just words and theory to understanding and actual picture of what a civil engineer actually is!
The Company
Depending on the stress of the day the atmosphere varies but overall the atmosphere was friendly and enjoyable!
My first internship was much more organised than the second one! HR had some sit backs regarding my latest one!
I couldn't ask for more! Sponsorship through my studies, internships, graduate scheme offer; costain invests, trains, and offers opportunities to its people!
Subsidised Canteen
Company Car
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Do your job, do what you are told, show respect and Costain will invest in you and offer you full employment
The Culture
There is a good social scene between everyone
Great cost of living and socialising both times
I was lining at a different area so no opinion on that
Lots of activities outside work! Bike ride to Paris, football every thursday, cricket, golf, half marathon etc.
