The Role
Extremely helpful colleagues, many of whom are experts in their field and did not hesitate in passing on their knowledge. The project was extremely interesting, and served me well in my thesis project. Having completed 2 internships with EDF Energy I am now eager to apply for the graduate scheme in 2016, after having such a positive experience.
Very valued - I got the impression the work I did was extremely useful and will add value to a wider project currently ongoing within the Nuclear Technology Branch.
Internship organiser was very organised, and kept in regular contact via email prior to the internship. He ensured we settled in and always was willing to speak to us if we had any questions/concerns.
Busy enough, but not too busy that I was stressed.
Limited responsibility as the project was fairly standalone, but this was expected given the nature of the project and the requirement to write a thesis.
People skills and technical skills will no doubt be useful in future career, as I plan to stay within the Nuclear Industry!
The Company
Bustling, relaxed and generally happy environment.
Nature of the internship meant that we did not really attend training courses - I feel like certain courses may have helped in understanding.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Very appealing! - Having done 2 placements with the EDF Energy and now working for another company, in comparison there is much more support on offer at EDF Energy (particularly on the graduate scheme). My only reason for not continuing to work for EDF following the placement is the lack of vacancies within the department I was placed. It is my intention to apply for the graduate scheme for next year!
The Culture
Very friendly, we stumbled across a number of graduates currently working at Barnwood. However it wasn't advertised that any graduates would be around, and I feel many people would have missed out on this opportunity to meet them.
Cheap rent, and cheap drinks!
Nice pubs in Gloucester, Cheltenham is the place to go for nightlife though!
Barnwood social sports club, although I only found out about this halfway through the internship.
