The Role
I very much enjoyed my time at Cushman & Wakefield, in particular, I enjoyed the diverse nature of the internship as a result of the two rotations that were offered to me in retail and residential which gave me the opportunity to build on my retail experience as well as develop new competencies in residential. Furthermore, the team in both retail and residential were very welcoming which allowed me to quickly settle into the teams, There are also regular opportunities to get out of the office through site visits which creates a more enriching and enjoyable experience. There is an effort made to get Interns involved in the social aspect of Cushman & Wakefield, I had the opportunity of attending a canal boat event which was a great chance to get to know my fellow interns and the wider Manchester team. There is the opportunity to be involved in real projects of a substantial nature, one such example was a land acquisition project on behalf of an international furniture brand looking for development sites in order to create, new, stores. Finally, I was able to work with leaders in their field such as Andy Hall who has had a significant impact in the out of town retail world.
My colleagues recognised the effort that I put into my work and my ability to take on additional tasks that I had not been asked to do.
Both the retail and residential teams gave me all the support and guidance I required during my internship. Gareth Wilson and Neal Riely who support graduates and interns in Manchester were both easily approachable.
I had plenty of work to do, but not to an extent where it felt too much to handle. This ensured that the Internship was both worthwhile and enjoyable.
I was involved in a range of significant projects such as producing a living strategy for Preston. Furthermore, I was tasked with identifying suitable opportunities for a food operator in Sheffield city centre which was carried out through an independent visit to Sheffield.
As a non-cognate, the skills I acquired on the internship have prepared me for a career within property and put me in a better position for success on a future RICS accredited Masters program.
The Company
There was an excellent balance between camaraderie and creating an atmosphere of productivity.
HR did an excellent job in guiding us through the process and getting everything sorted. Laptops were already set up and desk space allocated before I arrived allowing me to quickly get started on my first day. Events were also arranged by Cushman & Wakefield such as the opportunity to meet all the interns across the UK in London during our first week.
Cushman & Wakefield treats interns as equals and allowed interns to enhance a range of skills through the diverse nature of the projects on offer to interns. Feedback was provided and discussed on aspects such as our presentations which proved very useful for interns continued personal development.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
The employment prospects are very appealing at Cushman & Wakefield, exceptional interns can be made job offers at the end of their internships and those who were good interns are actively encouraged to apply to the graduate scheme.
The Culture
There was an excellent social scene amongst fellow interns, as a group of interns we arranged a number of social events.
The cost of living and socialising in Manchester is highly competitive in comparison to London and the South East.
Manchester has excellent nightlife suitable for a range of budgets and individual tastes, This is in part due to having one of the most thriving music scenes in the UK.
There are a range of opportunities outside of work at Cushman & Wakefield both of a sporting and socialising nature.
