The Role
I really enjoyed my time at KPMG- mostly due to the people that I met and worked with as well as the varied experience KPMG offered,
Everyone at KPMG were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The Graduates already working there always kept an eye on us and tried to make sure we always had something to do as well as introducing us to various Managers/Directors/Partners at the firm.
Support and guidance was always available. Sometimes supervisors were busy with their own schedules and work so would not always be there- but I was always able to schedule a meeting/catch-up with them and they would always make time to make sure you were okay. They would also put you into contact with graduates working on similar work to you so that you would have some point of contact at all times.
We were informed that Summer was usually a quiet period in our team so at times we struggled to get assignments. However, this is easily fixed by meeting as many people within your team as you can and someone will always have something you can help with. Knowing people in your team definitely helps!
I was given a good level of responsibility. Tasks were minimally supervised after you were briefed- but help was available if you needed it.
The internship definitely made me more confident in meeting new people as I was thrown into a working environment where I did not know anyone at all. Everyone was incredibly approachable and friendly which made networking and generally meeting people and finding out more about the firm a really enjoyable experience. I think being confident and being able to make strong connections with people are skills I could take away from this.
The Company
The working environment was great as a result of everyone being incredibly nice and welcoming, regardless of how busy or stressed they were.
Internship was well set up. Everyone was assigned a graduate as a buddy to help them/answer any questions throughout the internship. It was also really nice that the interns had a social organised for them by the firm as well as a Corporate Responsibility day where you take part in a group activity for a real cause.
We were made of compulsory training we had to do and the graduates also advised us to do other online courses that KPMG make available to you. These helped me as I did not come from a finance background and helped my understanding of the firm and the projects they take on.
