The Role
Overall the internship was enjoyable. It was quite slow starting and challenging to get involved but the longer you are there and build connections, the more interesting opportunities you can get involved in.
I was working in the TS team in TAS. The colleagues were very welcoming and willing to spend time on my development. They were very helpful, especially when working with a project team. It was also nice to have other interns within TAS to share my experience with although I didn't work with them specifically.
The support structures in theory are multi-level (buddy, counsellor, partner) and offer support and guidance. However I feel there could have been more quality control on this supervision. The supervision could have been more supportive in the first few weeks of the six week programme. However the higher level support was really great and made you feel very valued.
My first two weeks were not that busy and it took a while for substantial work to be available however once on a project, I was very involved with lots to do and lots to learn from. The variety of opportunities were also really great.
The level of independence in tasks was more than expected and made what you were doing seem worthwhile. The trust given is really great and there were also opportunities to do things outside your service line, which gave opportunities for additional experience.
The professionalism learnt from spending a long time in the work environment is invaluable. Working in teams and getting involved is key at EY and is a great thing to take away from the experience. I also got a lot of experience using excel, which is useful for the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was a nice mix of professionalism and relaxation. The business casual dress code helps with this as well as the open office spaces. Sometimes the hot desk can be a bit intimidating for an intern, especially if you cannot sit with your team but is something you get more comfortable with.
At a high level, the internship programme was well organised with information before arrival and a good training day. There could have been more opportunity to convene as a larger group or for social events. On a service line level, it took a while to find opportunities to get involved in however once these were opened up, they were well organised and easy to get involved in.
Many of the people in my team were really happy to spend time with me and help me learn about what they do and further my personal development. This was really humbling and one of the best parts of the internship.

The opportunities for future employment are clearly stated on the internship programme. There is easy to see career progression with a clear way of branching from the internship to the graduate scheme and beyond. The perks available are also appealing.
The Culture
This was largely self-arranged so whilst we were all connected and did develop a social scene, there could have been more organised especially initially to promote an integration between service lines too.
It was expensive to eat lunch and go out after work in the area but there are lots of places and options.
The nightlife was hard to explore having to commute.
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in the various networks.
