About You
My week at RPC was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The department I was placed in were extremely welcoming and I was given all the support I needed throughout to ensure I understood the tasks I was set. I was invited to sit in on department meetings and client calls which allowed me to gain a good understanding of the type of work the firm are involved which turned out to be an extremely useful learning experience too. The week was capped off nicely when I was invited for drinks on Friday with a group of trainees. All in all an enormously beneficial experience.
Apart from the few research tasks I was set to aid the advisory process in several litigation cases, there wasn't much technical expertise I could contribute to the team for obvious reasons. Nevertheless, the team dedicated a substantial amount of time during the week to set me tasks and ensure I was learning something about the firm and its business every single day. I always felt i had their attention whenever i needed it and as a result allowed me to ask the relevant questions whenever necessary.
As mentioned above, I received the perfect amount of guidance and they were extremely open to answer any questions I had throughout the week. The trainees at the firm were also extremely open to talk me through the training process at the firm and give me their opinions on why they are enjoying their time.
As a result of the research tasks and cases I worked on, I gained a good understanding of the scope of work the department do and gave me a much broader perspective of the extent to which law firm engage in everyday occurrences and the level of advice and support they are expected to give their clients. The experience also contributed to my ability to link day to day commercial situations to the potential legal implications on businesses and law firms. Being commercially aware is an essential ingredient to success in commercial law.
The Company
My week at RPC was extremely well structured. I was set new task or learning objectives each day which allowed me to gain a wide understanding of the work the department is involved in. I was then allocated set times to ask questions and get essential feedback on the work I had completed.
The working environment at RPC is welcoming, collaborative and inclusive, at all levels of the hierarchy. All departments sit in open plan work spaces and as a result partners, associates and trainees are encouraged to engage and work in teams and allows for an easy and supportive working environment.
N/A
As I have mentioned in my previous comments, RPC has a welcoming, integrative, collaborative culture, which allows its employees to express themselves technically and contribute to the firm's operations and general success.
The limited time I spent at RPC contributed enormously to the appeal of a career as a commercial lawyer as well as the appeal of the firm itself and my desire to pursue a career at RPC.
Everything Else
Again as mentioned in earlier statements, although I was not at the firm for long, I was given the opportunity during my breaks each day to catch up with lawyers and trainees and question them on life at the firm and the type of work they are involved with.
I was invited by a trainee to join a group of trainees on Friday for drinks, which gave me another good opportunity to inquire about the working life at the firm and get to the trainees better. It was also a very enjoyable evening.
I believe there are a number of pro bono voluntary activities as well as sporting teams which employees can get involved in outside work, which I believe offer an enjoyable and rewarding addition to life at the firm
I would definitely recommend the insight, yes.
