The Role
The Summer vacation scheme was a really enjoyable process from starting at the induction weekend right up until my final day with the firm.
From day one I was treated as if I was a first year graduate and not just an intern, this made me feel like an important and valued member of the team in the office and the smaller engagement teams that I worked within.
The support and guidance was brilliant at Deloitte. I met my buddy and champion on day one in the office and they made sure they were ever present throughout the scheme. In addition to this other senior colleagues made themselves very accessible and this allowed me to be very comfortable to ask for support and guidance.
This often varied from week to week, some weeks when there were deadlines to meet or I was part of an on site engagement team there was a decent amount of work to be getting on with. However, some weeks were less busy but this did give me the chance to take some of Deloitte's e-learning modules and also fully prepare for my conversion interview.
I was seen as a first year graduate so had the same levels of responisbility as someone who was employed by the firm full time. At no point did i feel like too much responisibility and pressure was put on me but I did feel the level given was appropriate.
Most importantly i gained the skill of meeting and dealing with clients face to face. Add to this the ability to meet guidelines within a deadline and i think that Deloitte has set me up with crucial life skills which I hope to develop throughout my degree and career.
The Company
The office atmosphere was perfect in my opinion with the right mix of professionalism and fun. My colleagues were friendly and accomodating and I really enjoyed going to work in the morning.
The placement was orgainised well. I had work to do for the full 6 weeks be that engagements or personal learning and development. The only slight criticism would be that some engagements were given to me quite last minute but luckily I was flexble and always knew where I was to be the next morning.
The personal learning and development was really impressive at Deloitte. I fel t as though the courses and learning I engaged in was directed towards me hopefully getting a job at the firm.

The Culture
The social scene was great, the team often went out to lunch and other highlights include a day at the races with the Leeds office!
Newcastle is relatively cheap. I managed to get into some student accomodation over the summer for £100 per week and in terms of socialising there aren't many better places in the UK. There are loads of good restaurants, nice bars and clubs as well as a really nice shopping area.
Newcastle nightlfe is brilliant and there really is something for everyone.
There was a intra-office football tournament and the oppurtiointy to join loads of Deloitte societies via the companies online portal.
